Back to index of guitar tablature pages by Donald Sauter.
The Etude in e minor, No. 2 (The Great), appeared in Soundboard magazine back in October 1975. It was contributed by Jack E. Curtiss. As you can see in the credit line - edited, revised, fingered, composed, pedalled, & realized by J. Estabrook Curtiss - Mr. Curtiss labored mightily to shape a musical idea from the genius of Vector Leah-Dobosch into a guitar work for the ages.
The piece was published in tablature, and I worked it up into my easy-to-read, ascii tablature to share with the world. Years later, in February 2011, I bit the bullet and dug the original off a piece of microfiche - remember that?
I flipped the negative into a positive, reconstructed all the staff lines, cleaned it up quite a bit, and added it here. It's still a whopper of a file size, so I hope you appreciate it. While the ascii tab is neat and clean and oh-so-efficient, there is something warm and friendly about Jack's original, handwritten tablature.
Pour everything you've got into it and see why the subtitle "The Great" is a feeble, feeble understatement. Hey, Jack, thanks for the belly laughs! Let me hear from you, if you're still out there.
And here's the same thing as above, in about 200k fewer bytes.
