Scrabble I For Word Lovers

With extended board and nice letter distribution!

Introduction and comparison with Championship Scrabble

*** Introduction ***

Scrabble I For Word Lovers is the second step in the Scrabble For Word Lovers suite. Scrabble I builds on Scrabble O, so, if you need a refresher, please visit the Scrabble O Introduction page.

Scrabble I goes beyond Scrabble O in just these two ways:

1. Extended board with 3 extra rows on each side.

2. Nice 300-tile letter distribution with a fresh, random scoop of 100 tiles for each game.

These two modifications launch Scrabble into a new orbit.

The three extra rows all around burst the Scrabble board straitjacket. Your main word must still connect to the classic board, but now you can stretch out; now you have blessed breathing room for the words you find in your rack.

A much more natural letter distribution means even bigger, healthier words on your Scrabble board and the random scoop makes every Scrabble game fresh and different, maybe even surprising.

For more detail and discussion, please visit the Scrabble I rules page, but this handy Scrabble I on a Slip about says it all:

*** Comparison of Scrabble I with Championship Scrabble ***

Let's see how those five games stack up against "regular" Scrabble played at the very, very highest level; specifically, the five-game championship play-off at the 2015 National Scrabble Tournament. (You can view the games here: Game 1 Game 2 Game 3 Game 4 Game 5.)

Here are all 199 words on the five Championship Play-off boards, and the 104 words on the five Scrabble I boards above. (Words in red would be disallowed in Scrabble For Word Lovers, which uses a regular dictionary.)
