Short ID: FC22. Title: Gavotte. Composer: Francois Campion. Source: Nouvelles decouvertes sur la Guitarre. Unnumbered page following page 12. Date: 1705. Facsimile: Minkoff (1977), page 34. Tuning: Bb D G C F (tuning 1). Time sig: C with slash ("cut time" symbol). Fixes and modifications (M=measure r=rhythm s=string): M8r1 original showed no rhythm symbol, implying 4ers throughout. 8th symbol added here. Tablature elements to be added by hand: Slurs. If only a starting point is given, slur includes all the following uninterrupted notes on the same string. M3 r1s1, r3s2. M4 r1s1 (original slur placed at bottom of chord), r3-4s2, r6-7s2. Strums: Arrowheads ^ and v indicate strums. Open strings in strummed chords were not shown in the tablature; add as many open strings as sound good. Take a moment to re-draw the ^ arrowhead right at the top of the associated stem, just under the beam if a beam is present. Explanation of symbols: " = trill (starting on upper neighbor). , = mordent. There are none in this piece. . = do not strum this string in the chord. Octave doublings: To keep certain musical lines intact on the modern guitar, consider adding or substituting the next octave up. For example, see: m8r3. Performance style: consider playing the 8th notes inegales, that is, as dotted 8ths or "swing" 8ths (triplet feel). Leading measures in Campion's original tablature: 1 5 9. Last measure is 10. *** Download and edit out all material above and below the tablature. *** See my printing tips in the page, "General comments on the tablature." *** Print out starting with the title line below.
